Our identity is formed by things to which we have attached ourselves: family, residence, job/career, friends, gifts and abilities. What mirror are we looking into? The Apostle Paul wrote the first three chapters of Ephesians to tell new Christ followers that because of Christ they have a new identity “in Christ.” The phrase “in Christ” or “in Him” appears 7 times in 11 verses in our text. Getting this is perhaps the most exhilarating, empowering concept of our inner formation!

God gave us a wonderful identity. It is unique. It is an identity that brings blessing. But our God given and blessed identity has been stolen. In identity theft, someone steals part of your life and uses it for his own purposes with no regard to the consequences to the quality of your life. Put another way, Satan wants to live your life.

While the world is in an uproar, we need to be reminded that God is in control. He sits on the throne of judgment and will bring justice to evil events and kingdoms. It is, therefore, not our job to bring justice, but to be faithful to Jesus no matter how we are tested and opposed.

In Chapter 7 of the book of Daniel, we are given visions of the future and reminded again that we are called to a life of no compromise as we live in the world. As it was with Daniel in Babylon in the 6th Century, so it is with us in our “Babylon” in the 21st Century.
