Gratitude is a road less traveled. A grateful heart is a heart fully given over to God. It is so natural to be unhappy, discontented, dissatisfied and jealous. Gratitude keeps us near to God and protects us from self-absorption and ultimately self-destruction. It is a road that truly makes all the difference.

It is our human nature to find the easy way. But as we have all learned one way or another, the easy way is rarely the best way. Jesus described this phenomenon as the road less traveled and seldom chosen. As we prepare for a holiday season of food and family, and prepare to give thanks, a look at longsuffering/patience will be food for our souls.

“Life is difficult.” Somehow we have this strange notion that it shouldn’t be. We struggle against that reality. Life is tough and we must decide that living requires character. Character is found on the road less traveled. For the next 6 weeks our series will challenge us to grow in specific ways. Our first character quality is unconditional love. As far as Jesus is concerned this is the highest road. Let’s consider a story from the life of Jesus, found in the book of Luke, that illustrates the kind of love that puts us on the road less traveled.
