Carl Cherry attended the University of Arizona in 1982 on a Jazz Studies scholarship with a minor in Sports Nutrition. While attending college, he had become an in demand session and touring drummer. He left college to pursue a career in music full time in 1986. Carl found success as a "hired drummer" for many circumstances. Never being one to be satisfied with one style of music, Carl's session work had him in just about every playing style imaginable.  He made Tucson AZ his home base and between tours taught drums privately and played drums locally, most notably with local reggae giants Neon Prophet.

Carl came to Pantano in 1991 at the invitation of a friend. It was the first church he'd been to where he felt welcome. He was an usher for three years before he became involved in any form of music ministry. Carl was discipled by Keith Krueger and later by Tim Coop. He started as a volunteer leading the band and writing musical arrangements. He served in this capacity for about 3 years before being invited to become a part of the staff. Carl worked part-time for PCC for 2 years and added leading small groups to his plate. When the opportunity arose, accepted the full-time position of worship leader and about six months later became the worship pastor. He reluctantly accepted the position hoping they would find someone else to fill it. He realized over time that God placed him in that position for a purpose and he continues in that station today. Carl has been at Pantano going on 18 years and can't imagine doing anything else!

Carl plays a number of instruments and has been involved in the music industry for more than 27 years not only as an instrumentalist but as a producer as well.  He has played all over the world with various artists, from bass virtuosos Victor Wooten and Brian Bromberg to Grammy award- winning Bruce Hornsby.

Carl and his wife Denise have been married for 16 years, with a 5 year old son named JohnCarl and 3 dogs. Carl's hobbies include digital artistry, reading, wine tasting, and online gaming.

What you don't know about Carl is... his first language is German.
