Sling Shot Archives » September 2008

Well howdy, guys.  It has been a while.  Time for another blog entry.  I seriously don’t know how Glen does these every week.  Man!   I will shoot for succinctness and settle for “not quite as long” for my post this time.  Fair enough?

Jesse and I have breakfast every week with a bunch of pastors and lay leaders from other churches here in Cochise County.  What a great group this is.  We talk about college football, theology, ministry here, bird dogs, kids, music…you name it and we talk about it.  We are an eclectic bunch.  And we laugh.  A lot.  I had not been here but a week or two when Jim Young introduced me to this group and I have been going ever since.

These men are all leaders and Pastors in their respective churches. These men are all on their journey with Christ.   These men challenge each other and me to be better for the Kingdom of God.  They encourage and exhort.   These men pray for me, Jesse and Pantano Christian Church here in Sierra Vista.  I know because we pray for them.  To me, this is the way the Kingdom of God should be.  At the end of the day, we are all on the same team.

But the best part about this group is that here is a bunch of godly men who have no other motivation than to make us better people and pastors.   Nothing at stake other than advancing the Kingdom here in Sierra Vista.   These men sometimes ask tough questions and don’t accept flippant answers.   They have challenged both Jesse and I to a higher standard of being pastors and leaders.  These guys have been where we are and have gone through church launches, periods of growth and sustainment.  These men come every Thursday morning with smiles, jokes and love in their hearts for the Kingdom of God, the church and all the intricacies that make up life in the body of Christ.

As I listened to Glens message “Saint! Less than Perfect” I am reminded of this group of men.  All of these men reflect what Paul says in Ephesians 4:2-3:

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

Thank you, God, for greasy breakfast and these men.
