The ministry: Helping refugees in Tucson adjust to life in America. New families arrive weekly to our city.
People group focus: Includes families from Burma, Burundi, Mesketian Turks from Georgia, Iraqis and more.
The Life Group: As a Life Group we work one-on-one with refugees. We meet together on the first Wednesday of every month to share notes, but our major emphasis is on helping the refugees become adjusted to American life. The Refugee Outreach Life Group is a rare opportunity to fulfill the Great Commission without leaving our own community. Key verse: Deut 10:17-19.
Opportunities for Involvement:
- Befriend refugees and their families
- Teach English to adults and children
- Help them with understanding the American system – applying for food stamps, learning our customs, learning how to ride the bus, etc.
- Help with transportation to doctors’ visits, shopping, the library, etc.
- Help furnish apartments
- Help supply other household items they need
