January 16, 2010 – This is a brief video of Wess Stafford in regard to the crisis in Haiti. It is not long; please watch, listen to the man who is “never more than 10 seconds from tears,” and pray for Compassion staff in Haiti, all who gather there to help in rescue operations, the children, their families, and the sponsors of children who live in the area of devastation. So much prayer is needed!

Tausi has been one of my sponsored children since I first encountered a Compassion table, six and a half years ago. She will be 13 years old on the birthdate that we share, in September. Her parents were divorced before God brought our two lives together, and I believe her father is entirely out of her life.
Tausi and her mom have lived with her grandmother since before I began sponsoring her. Her mom has been ill, all that time, as well, with chronic heart disease. Then last year, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. In recent months, she has been hospitalized, for treatment; I’m not even sure if she has been at home, at all, during the time.
Several days ago, I received a letter from Tausi–written for her. This is an excerpt:
She says sorry for not answering your letter on time, the reason is that she travelled to Dar-es-Salaam after getting report of her mother’s death. Tausi says she had a difficult time of missing her mother while she is in such small age. She requests you [her parents] very very much to pray for her so that she may get comforted and have peace and hope for she knows all these are God’s programes.
That is a good indication of the importance of sponsors in the children’s lives. We are told that they often pay more attention to what sponsors say than to the project staff–and, I will add, to what their sponsors don’t say, when sponsors don’t encourage the child’s spiritual growth. I thank God that Tausi and I have had these years to build our relationship, before this really difficult time. Please pray with me for Tausi, and if you are a sponsor, please write a letter to your sponsored child!
